Lately, we have been receiving more and more requests on how to become a data scientist. Of course, we have an extensive customized program for this, but the good news is that you can also make significant progress with just your laptop and an internet connection.
What do data scientists do? In short, they utilize data to achieve certain goals. They answer questions, and based on these answers, important decisions are made. They do this by first thoroughly understanding those goals, then analyzing data, creating (predictive) models, and applying algorithms. Depending on the exact role, data scientists also formulate the questions, gather the data, clean it up, and present the results.
And what knowledge and skills do they need for this? Data science is what’s known as an interdisciplinary field. Knowledge and skills from various domains are combined: statistics, mathematics, and computer science are the main pillars for answering business questions with data.
This might sound like a lot, but the good news is that it’s achievable step-by-step for someone with an academic level of work and/or thinking.
A very good online program can be found, for example, on DataCamp.
Finding a job after such a program is not always easy. We recommend everyone to work on small projects alongside, so you actually have something to show during an interview.
